School Resource Officer
Scott Police Department, in conjunction with Lafayette Parish School System, has 5 officers assigned to L. Leo Judice, Westside Elementary, Scott Middle School and Acadiana High School.
The officers provide police services to the school and serve as investigators for all incidents that take place on campus.
In addition, the officers establish partnerships with the school’s administration to plan and train for any emergency or crisis that may arise.
It is the officers duty to assist in traffic control, drug & alcohol related activities, after school events, and all other law enforcement aspects.
The purpose of the School Resource Officer on campus is to serve the staff and students of each school in 3 main roles:
1. Law Enforcement Officer
2. Law-Related Counselor
3. Law-Related Educator
SRO’s are tasked with being available to students throughout the day for counseling, mediation, or to hear concerns in order to assist students in making sound decisions.
The School Resource Officer Program is under the supervision of the Special Operations Division Commander Lt. Brooks Benoit.
